Ferguson's book provides an explanation for the historical change that I find convincing. However, his book was published in 2017 and doesn't account for some of the important changes in the way an educational divide is linked to voting patterns and people's politics. "Socialism" and "Critical Race Theory" have become targets of political attacks. We can't understand the shift of activism outside of campus programs without understanding how those programs have come under new scrutiny.
