Conversation 2: Climate Change
Political Right:
Thinks that solar panels are hurting the economy and are hurting certain animals like whales and birds; along with this he wants this to be done independently by the US and wants us to drill in areas like Alaska he is in favor of oil but doesn't like electric vehicles
Electric cars are seen as more expensive than traditional gas cars so that there is less pressure to buy electric ones (to overture Bidens ruling)
Think that the Biden admin. rushed us into electric vehicles and businesses into lessening carbon emissions wants to be able to have oil and gas along with not making us buy certain cars in an effort to help the environment
Only 12% of Repubs think that is important and should be addressed in the Senate
Very unlikely that legislation will be passed to help in effort to stop climate change and Trump is likely to pull out of more environmental agreements in efforts to help the economy which will affect other countries as we are one of the biggest contributors to fossil fuels emissions
Nuclear energy: If its available we should use it if it is the cheapest option even if it will hurt the environment. Have done it before open to doing it again
87% of republicans want more trees to be planted to help with carbon emissions but they don't see it as important as the economy but it will be dealt with when the effects show more
Think that alternatives to windmills and solar panels think that they are harming the environment because while it helps in the short term it can cause waste later one
Political Left:
You can get tax credit when buying electric cars and also have other ways to make eco-friendly living more affordable
Also favor more solar panels than windmills
It will decrease due to the new presidential ruling due to him backing out of the Paris Agreement since he did it during his first presidency while it will help with gas prices it will cost us a lot environmentally
Nuclear energy: want to protect the environment and want to try and stop relying on nuclear energy
Droughts and heat stress, could also affect the crops which in turn affects the economy
can save up to 30% of energy if they use windmills
Scientific Rep:
Reducing gas admissions and also using solar power to help deal with the issues of the windmill
Hard to balance the economy and climate. While they want to help the environment they also want to focus on helping the economy
Historical Rep:
