US Racial Privilege - white privilage
White privilege
implicit societal advantages afforded to White people relative to those who experience racism -
“White privilege is an institutional (rather than personal) set of benefits granted to those of us who, by race, resemble the people who dominate the powerful positions in our institutions.”
White privilege, however, does not imply that white people have not or cannot experience challenges in life; it means that any challenges that a white person has faced or may face is not related to the color of their skin.
Having white privilege doesn't mean that white people have never endured challenges and distressing events. It just means that their struggles have not been caused by their skin color.
Understanding White Privilege
The phrase "white privilege" was first coined by activist and scholar Peggy McIntosh in 1988 in her paper "White Privilege: Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack."1 She described white privilege in terms of the unspoken advantage that the dominant culture has over people of color.

When people of color speak to their experiences of oppression, it’s important for white people not to dominate the conversation or question those experiences.
Share the work and perspectives of people of color on social media. Credit colleagues of color for ideas. This not only helps marginalized people reach that audience but also helps spread their message from the source, rather than through the lens of a white person.
If you hear racist remarks, speak up.
Critically evaluate documentaries that surround topics like slavery, race, the U.S. prison system and more.
most certainly can mean engaging directly in anti-bias work, such as instilling more inclusive practices at your school or business or working with people committed to allyship and anti-racist activism, such as SURJ.

If white people are accused of a crime, they are less likely to be presumed guilty, less likely to be sentenced to death and more likely to be portrayed in a fair, nuanced manner by media outlets (see the #IfTheyGunnedMeDown campaign).
In 2017, people of color who were unarmed and not attacking anyone were more likely to be killed by police.

Causes
Others find roots outside the container of race, woven into proud family histories. A small minority cling violently to their white cultural identity, sometimes with tragic consequences. (In any case, it is important to note that the ability to trace one’s genealogy is an inherited privilege not enjoyed by most African Americans, the majority of whom are descendants of enslaved people.)
In her book Birth of a White Nation, she shows that white people didn’t exist—even as a label, much less as a race—until the end of the 17th century when the elite class enacted anti-miscegenation laws and other laws designed to keep black and white workers separate, both efforts to, in part, divide and control an increasingly ethnically diverse labor force.
