Our bodies handle a variety of forces. A joint's full ROM supported by the active and passive structures allow for force attenuation (the joint's envelope of function). Overuse, Sedentary lifestyle, syndromes, diseases, poor nutrition, medications, and more can lead to atrophy of these structures directly like muscles, connective tissues, ligaments as well as indirectly through poor blood supply, poor nutritional support. Overtime, load intolerance increases leading to an event, an injury, pain. It increases to a point which shifts into our lens of focus.
