Stabilisers
Supraspinatus
Subscapularis Nerve
Infraspinatus
Subsacpularis
Teres Minor
Coracobrachials
Ligaments
Glenohumeral Ligament
Limit side to side movement and stop shoulder dislocation
Muscles
Supraspinatus and Infraspinatus
Flexors
Deltoideus
Teres Major
+/- long head triceps
Extrinsic Muscles of the Shoulder and Arm
Trapezius
Pars Cervicals
Insertion: Scapula Spine
Origin for P-C -> Fibrous Raphe from C3 to T1-2
Pars Thoracic
Origin: for P.T -> Supraspinous Ligaments of T3-9
Nerve = Acessory Nerve
Function: When both the PC and PT contact together - they elevate the scapula
Individually they protract the limb forward (swing foward)
Latissimus Dorsi
Origin: Spinous Process and Thoracolumbar Fascia of Thoracic Verb: 4-13 and L1-7
Insertion: Teres Tuberosity of Humerus
Also inserts on the the aponeurosis medially to the triceps brachii/ trees major/ deep pectoral muscles
Action: Pulls Trunk Foward (When the foot is fixed foward)
Action: Retracts the limb and flexes the shoulder when the forelimb is free
Deep Pectoral
Action: Powerfully retracts the most advanced limb
Action: Extends the shoulder joint
Action: Suspends the thorax
Origion: Sternabrae 1-8
Insertion: Inserts on the lesser tubercle (middle of tricipital line) -> Humerus
Superficial Pectoral
Action: The superficial pectoral -> adducts the limb.
Action: The superfical pectoral assists in the suspension of the trunk
Action: Depending on the location -> the Superficial Pectoral protracts and retracts (move foward and back) the limb
Origion: Cranial End of the Sternum
Proximal 2/3rds of the cranial edge of the humerus shaft
Rhomboid
Pars Cervicis
Action: The Rhomboid Muscle draws the scapula against the trunk
Action: Rotates scapula to retract the limb
Action: Elevates the scapula
Origion of the Pars Cervicis: Median raphe of the neck C2/3 -> T3
Insertion: Caudal Aspect of the Dorsal border of the scapula
Pars Thoracis
Origin: Spinous Processes of T4-6/7
Pars Capitis
Origion: Thin tendon from Occiput
Ventral Serrate
Action: The Ventral Serrate suspends the thorax beteen pectoral limbs (sling like support)
Action: Little help in forced respirtation
Action: Manipulates the scapula to advance and retract the limb (medial side)
Origion: Transverse process of C3-7 and 1st -> 8th rib
Inserts: Facises Serrate of the Medial Scapula
Brachiocephalicus
Cleidocervicalis
Origin: Clavicular Tendon
Inserts: Aponeurosis over the cranial half of the neck
Cleidomastoideus
Inserts: Mastoid Processes of the Temporal Bone
Cleidobrachialis
Action: Advances the free limb (protracts) -> +/- extends the glenohumeral joint (shoulder joint) -> fixes and depresses the neck + draws the head and neck laterally
Inserts: on the cranial edge of the distal part of the humerus
*
tendon of insertion of the cleidobrachialis passes between the biceps brachia and the brachialis muscle
Omotransverse
Action: The omotransverse protracts the limbs (advances)
Nerve: It's innervated by the accessory nerve
Origin: Wing of the Atlas (C1)
Inserts: Inserts on the dorsal aspect of the scapula spine
Elbow
