Statistics sampling
Sampling methods
-
Sample - subgroup of the population used to predict and make decisions about the population as a whole
Stratified sampling
If population has subgroups, you can take a sample that ensures each subgroup is proportionally represented in the sample
-
-
Quota sampling
Similar to stratifed, but quota of items included from each subgroup isnt always proportional
Doesn't require a random sample within subgroup, so bias is likely
-
Opportunity sampling
-
-
Finding a way to get a sample within given constraints, could be first n items 'found'
Cluster sampling
If population is divided into sub groups which are each reasonable representative of the population, cluster sampling is taking a sample from just a few groups
Only appropriate if u are investigating something that is unlikely to be affected by which subgroup something is in
