The origins of the theatre in Britain are linked to medieval religious celebrations
These performences took place in the nave of chureces but soon they move outside

And lay people took the place of monks and priests

Entertaimment was rooted in the communal life of medieval towns for mixed public

James Burbage built the first permanent theatres the Theatre (1567) and the Curtain (1577),north of the walls of the city of London
