Purpose and Structure
Objective: Provide targeted homework support and foster student confidence and accountability, without encroaching on recess, instructional, or enrichment time.
Session Details: 30-minute sessions, scheduled outside of recess and independent time to maintain student choice and enthusiasm.
Group Size: Limit to 5-10 students who need extra support, ensuring individualized attention.
Motivational Tools and Incentives
Small Prizes: Offer candies, trinkets, or small prizes as immediate rewards for task completion or positive effort.
Point System: Track points that students can accumulate and redeem for rewards.
Engage the Student Council to help develop ideas for rewards and activities that make the program exciting, and to promote participation among their peers.
Interactive Tools for Understanding
Engagement Games: Use interactive games like Kahoot, Quizlet, and Blooket to reinforce learning, build enthusiasm, and quickly assess comprehension.
Rotate these tools weekly to maintain interest and cover diverse subject areas, focusing on material provided by teachers.
Teacher Collaboration
Content and Task Preparation: Collect assignments, areas of need, or specific tasks from teachers in advance. Teachers can offer guidance or tailor worksheets to students’ specific areas of struggle.
Feedback Loops: Gather teacher feedback after each session to track progress and ensure alignment with classroom goals.
Student Reflection and Goal Setting
Reflection Logs: Have students complete a quick reflection form at the end of each session to identify something they learned, any challenges faced, or a positive accomplishment. This fosters self-awareness and pride in their progress.
Personal Goals: Encourage students to set small goals for themselves each week, whether it's mastering a topic or completing a specific task. This promotes accountability and a sense of achievement.
Parent Communication
Streamlined Updates: Include program updates in a weekly, single-sheet newsletter so parents are informed about their child’s participation and progress without receiving multiple emails.
