Open Door Policy
Main goal was to ensure equal trading rights and give everyone access to the market
The US implemented this in China so they could trade freely with them
Wanted access to Chinese markets and open them to more countries
They hoped to diversify the market for their own economic interests
allowed for more financial stability and helped the US in the Spanish-American War
With this policy, and new found wealth, the US set up many naval bases in their new territories
The US gained territories after the Treaty of Paris was signed which officially declared the end of the Spanish-American War
Due to the alarming growth of other nations that established markets in China, the US didn't want to be left behind and lose access to the valuable resources China could provide them

Moral Diplomacy
Emphasized that democracy will help a nation prosper and nations that follow democracy will be able to sustain and maintain themselves
Aimed to spread democracy throughout nations to achieve peace
It is unlike Dollar Diplomacy, which only focuses on economic interests while this one contains political interests
US left a lasting impact on Mexico which guided and influenced their politics to shift to democracy
He supported Carranza, who was a leader that leaned more towards democratic principles
US took control of the Dominican Republic and controlled its finances and maintained economic stability
His ideals were not to benefit economic interests but he still protected businesses
