Mr. Despeaux's Maker Space
The purpose of my space is to encourage my students to be curios about their learning. I want them to explore with their learning, becoming comfortable with making mistakes and reaching unique solutions to problems. Hopefully, my space will let my students explore constructionism through hands-on learning.
Curriculum Standards:
2.V.2 Apply creative and critical thinking skills to artistic expression.
2.V.2.1 Understand that artistic problems have multiple solutions.
2.V.2.2 Use personal point of view of the environment as a source of imagery.
2.V.2.3 Create art from real and imaginary sources of inspiration.
Brainstorm Station
This station will contain whiteboards and tablets to help students outline their goals for class projects. This station will help them think creatively and learn how to collaborate.
Paper Mache Station
This station will most likely not be available year round, but I think that it would be beneficial to incorporate as a classroom activity several times a semester. Students will use this station to experiment with different art styles. This station will teach my students how to use different resources to make art that is three dimensional in nature.

Lazer Station
This station will incorporate lazer cutting technology to cut or shape materials like wood and cardboard for my students specific projects.
This station will need to be carefully watched at all times.
I will not allow my second grade class to use these machines without supervision. I still want my students to have experience with lazer cutting as it will encourage them to make precise designs for projects they want to bring to the station.
Lego Land
The purpose of this station is to help my students develop spacial reasoning, creativity, and teamwork. Students will have the option to use this space to construct their own creations. This being said, I believe that I will make my students present me with a construction plan before they start building (Maybe with the whiteboards or tablets). This will ensure that they are sticking to a plan that they will meet challenges with rather then building with no purpose.
3D Pen station
3D pens are a tool that emit plastic film three-dimensionally. Using these pens in class can allow my students to start exploring three dimensional design that will help them think about art from different perspectives.
