Plant kingdom
-
Gymnosperms
-
-
-
Examples of gymnosperms are: Pine trees, cycads, fir trees etc
-
Pteridophytes(ferns)
Don't produce flowers, rather they produce spores
-
-
-
-
Algae
-
-
-
No roots, stems or leaves
-
Reproduction of plants
Sexual Reproduction
Pollen generation
Gymnosperms - cones either male or female (male produce pollen to fertilise closed female cone, then develops seeds, released when opened
-
Spores
Bryophytes & some pteridophytes spores has similar purpose to pollen - male part fertilises female part, needs particular conditions
-
Angiosperms / Flowers
Pollination - pollen grains move from anther (flower 1) to stigma (flower 2). Happen through insects or wind
Seeds & Fruit - pollen tube grows through style to reach ovule inside ovary. Nucleus (sperm) of pollen grain joins with nucleus (egg) of ovule = fertilization. Ovule grows into seeds / Ovary wall becomes rest of fruit.
-
Seed Dispersal - compete with each other so must spread out from parent plant, to reduce competition
-
Photosynthesis
Process
-
-
-
-
-
At night, no light - no photosynthesis
