Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), or Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a disease that gets worse over time and affects the nerve cells that control muscles. As these nerve cells break down, people lose control and strength in their muscles, which can lead to paralysis. Common signs of ALS are muscle weakness, twitching, and later on, trouble with breathing and speaking.
