The Use of Machines and Algorithms that Simulate/Replicate Human Intelligence:check:
Ethical Challenges
The Use cases of AI and ML pose many ethical concerns that oppose many popular ethical theories and philosophies that are key components of society
Scenario 2: A Person uses fake AI generated social media post about a company which leads to the company facing harsh backlash on the internet over fake post that were never real
I would choose to apologize in this scenario as again it aligns with a core principle of virtue ethics where the person is apologizing for the misleading information
The ethical decision in this case would be for the person to apologize and to face punishment as this would help heal the companies image. The person admitting that the images were fake would align with the principles of virtue ethics as they would be making a decision that emphasizes honesty and integrity.
Scenario 1: A Company's AI model makes decisions based on inherently bias data that will blatantly discriminate against certain ethnic groups due to the skewed data.
I would choose to update the data because updating the data is a simple way to fix such a bi and dangerous issue that effects millions of people. Prioritizing the people would also be a representation of virtue ethics in this case.
I think the best decision would be to update the data that the AI model receives so that its not outdated and in turn making bias decisions. This decision would align with Utilitarianism as the happiness of the effected ethnic groups would be prioritized in this specific case
Cybersecurity Advantages
Ai and ML can be a big benefit within the cybersecurity realm, leading to Users and their data being more secure and protected than ever
Scenario 1: A company integrates a New AI into their app that detects any malicious activity anybody could be preforming on their app and prevents any further activity from that person
The ethical decision in this case would be to just inform the user of the use of this Ai within the software as that aligns with the virtue ethics many companies want to present as their public image. Being honest and open are core aspects of virtue ethics that the company should integrate in this case.
In this case i would just choose to inform the customers as i feel its the duty of the company to inform consumers of what type of technology is within the app that they use
Scenario 2: A company has an AI built into their cybersecurity system for their app that dynamically learns from past accidents, leading to an overall better security system for the company's app
The ethical decision in this case again would be to be transparent with your consumers and to tell them of the use of AI within the app as this aligns with the ethical ideals of Kantianism. Companies have a duty to respect their customers which also is a core ideal of this ethical principle
I again would choose to inform the consumers of this integrated AI system as the consumers have a right to know about what technologies are being used within the apps that they use in order to keep themselves safe.
Cybersecurity Risks
Ai and ML Also has the ability to pose major cybersecurity risk that can put user data into the hands of people with malicious intent.
Scenario 2: A Group of hackers utilize ai to improve their malicious attacks on company databases, allowing them more access to peoples personal data
In this case the ethical decision would be to impose the method of ethics by committee as that would allow for a group of people to come together and enforce some type of decision based around ethics to help stop hackers from improving their hacking abilities
I would go with this decision of ethics by committee as i feel that having ethical authority make decisions on how to handle these types of people would lead to better protection of people's data
Scenario 1: A group of hackers manipulate the system of a popular banking app and gain access to the app, leading to millions of people having their banking information exposed to this malicious group.
In this case the ethical decision would be to stop the group of hackers as soon as possible and to secure the data of your users as soon as possible. You would also want to make it up to them in some way to keep up the Utilitarianist principles that are keys within banking
I would choose to work as quickly as possible to try and secure the data of my users and to make sure that no further damages could be caused. The Privacy and safety of the users would be my #1 priority.
Privacy and Security Challenges
With The popularity of AI and ML in today's society, its presence poses many risk to the privacy of the users who interact with it and poses many Security issue along with it as well
Scenario 1: A company runs an online store/website and collects the data of its users to recommend new items for the users to buy relating to their interest without explicitly informing the consumers
In this scenario the best decisions according to Kantian ethics would be to inform the users of their data being collected and allow them to opt in or out of their data being collected for targeted advertising as that decision would respect the humanity of their user, Which is core aspect of Kantian Ethics.
In This case i would choose to inform the users and give them the ability to opt out as again that is a decision that remains ethical by respecting the data of the users and giving them a choice
Scenario 2: A company has a popular social media app where users share personal information often. An exploit within the app allows for hackers to gain access to these peoples information and use it for whatever they see fit
The most ethical decision the company could make in this scenario would be to stop this exploit as soon as possible and too issue an apology to the users while also promising to do better in the future as this aligns with the Utilitarianist design of many apps. This decision would ultimately make users happier and make the platform more ethical
I would go with the decision to fix the exploit and apologize as its an ethical decision that aims remedy the situation and overall make the users happy again, which again aligns with the ethical ideals of Utilitarianism.
