complimentary colors - colors opposite of each other (balance and contrast)
monochromatic - different shades of one color
analogous colors - colors lying next to each other on the color wheel, different shades break up the color pattern
discordance - colors that don't fit the color scheme, draws the audience eyes to one particular point in the film
60/30/10 rule: 60% of the frame is dominated by a primary color, 30% is a secondary color, 10% accent or highlight color.
saturation: highly saturated scenes draw the viewer in, and makes it hard to look away. low saturated scenes give a more realistic and ground approach (gritty, intense and dramatic). desaturated looks give you a more lifeless feeling
brightness: bright colors are used to create excitement or to showcase a lot of life in a scene. while darker colors showcase drama, darkness, suspense or death.
