- Process: Three students measure the number of steps for a 20-meter distance, then calculate each student’s step length.
- Calculate Average Step Distance and Standard Deviation
- Average Step Distance: The average of the step lengths for the three students.
- Standard Deviation: Calculate the deviation for each step length to get the standard deviation (reflects the accuracy of the measurements).
- Scale: Assume 5 cm on paper represents 20 meters, giving a scale of 1:400 (meaning 1 cm represents 4 meters).
- Drawing Method: Draw a 5 cm line on paper, marking "0" on the left end and "20 m" on the right end.
- Distance Marking: Label every 1 cm as 4 meters, marking "4 m," "8 m," "12 m," etc., in sequence.
- Labeling Format: The scale can be labeled as "1:400" or "1 cm = 4 meters."
- Reduce Error: If step distances vary widely, increase the number of students measuring or have repeated measurements.
