Kantian Deontology
Background information
-
Willing/wanting - the will is the thing which turns ideas and principles in your head into actions.
You can want a particular thing, yet your will could make you do the opposite (sort of like your conscious). e.g you could want the last piece of cake but your will makes you give it to someone else.
Will and want are tired but don't need to always produce the same action.
-
Duty
The good will = good when it is motivated by duty. E.g. you do something because 'it is what you ought to do"
Shop keeper example
In accordance with duty: Shop keeper doesn't 'rip off' customers because 'its good for buisiness' and if you rip them off you'll get a bad reputation
-
Acting out of duty: Doesn't rip off customers because that's a bad thing to do, and honesty is something he 'ought to do'
-
Imperitives
The way a sentence is framed, 'command word' "sit down"
