Factors that Influence strength - Coggle Diagram
Factors that Influence strength
Mass Distribution
the closer the muscle is to the joint the less torque is produced
Muscle Size
how thick a muscle is at the cross sectional area determines how much force it can produce
Passive Length Tension
as a muscle lengthens you get more passive resistance to lengthening
Active Length tension
muscle lengthens until there are no more cross bridges available and the muscle fails
Active vs passive insufficiency
active insufficiency: inability to produce torque due to shortening of mucle over all joints it crosses
passive insufficiency: restriction of passive motion due to lengthening of the muscle across multiple joints
Length Tension
Moment Arm
the farther away the muscle is away from the joint the more torque can be produced
Contraction Velocity
faster contraction=lower force(concentric)
faster contraction=higher force(eccentric)
Motor Unit Recruitment
Hemmenan Size Principle
as you fatigue, you recruit more/bigger motor units; when you begin an exercise you recruit the smallest/least amount of motor units as possible
