US Relationship
Britain believed that if BNA was independent then the relationship between Britain and USA would improve. Allowing their colonies to become independent, Britain wouldn't have to worry about managing the relationships of the colonies and could just focus on their own relationship with America.
Financial Responsibility
Britain wanted its colonies, especially the ones in North America, to be more financially responsible for their own defence. It lessened financial burden on British taxpayers by making the colonies more self sufficient through confederating as a country.
Economic Support
Britain offered low interest loans for the railway development as a way for the colonies to support confederation. This was meant to encourage the colonies to become more united making confederation more appealing.
