Reduced relative clauses
Reduced clauses generally appear when the relative clause has active or passive verbs, and they can look like participle phrases.
Example with active form (present participle -ing):
"My sister, who lives in New York, is visiting us next week." -> "My sister, living in New York, is visiting us next week.
Shortened versions of defining relative clauses where we remove the relative pronoun (who, which, that) and sometimes the auxiliary verb
Example with passive Form (Past Participle):
"The books that were written by Hemingway are classics." -> "The books written by Hemingway are classics.
