Homeostasis + Kidney - Coggle Diagram
Homeostasis + Kidney
-
Main points
-
All glucose, most water and salt (sodium + chloride) is reabsorbed
-
Water is reabsorbed via osmosis, from high water potential (filtrate) to low water potential (cytoplasm of the PCT cells)
This dilutes cytoplasm, until water potential is higher than plasma, making water move into tissue fluid then the blood
-
As the filtrate travels along the PCT, ions + polar substances are reabsorbed into the blood
This increases the water potential of filtrate, which causes water to move into the cytoplasm via osmosis

Ascending Limb
- Going higher up the tubule, Na + Cl is actively transported out into the tissue fluid
-
- Sodium + chloride ions diffuse out of tubule into tissue fluid at base to ascending
As fluid in tubule ascends, water potential becomes less negative (or higher)
Descending limb
As fluid descends into medulla, water potential becomes more negative (or lower)
