- sailors refused to go to sea to battle the British, leading to mutiny and the arrest of 600, leading to more protests and unrest
- army generals refused to support the Kaiser so he fled to Holland
- Ebert, the leader of the social democrats, becamw the leader of Germany, signing the armstice with the allies
shaky founations
- clashes continued between social democrats and communists who started working towards revolution
- 6th of Jan 1919 a revolution started but was supressed with the help of the military
the white terror
- those on the right wing of the political spectrum began revolting, and the army refused to support the Weimar government
- putsch was put down by a united worker strike action
the growth of inflation
- after 1921 the German economy experienced hyperinflation triggered by the allies' announcement of reparations bill
- value of the mark decreased rapidly, started printing more money
- cost of bread in Berlin went from 0.63 marks in 1918 to 201,000,000,000 marks in 1923
- in 1923 french troops invaded the Ruher (most productive area) causing complete collapse of the economy

- following inflation, people completely lost faith in the government
- Hitler took advantage of this chaos and staged a putsch in a Munich beer hall, failed and was arrested two days later
- used his trial to spread his message, making him a well known figure
