Abel

Trevor learns to fit in with different racial and cultural groups because he is a mixed-race child in South Africa. Even though he often feels like an outsider, he uses humor and speaks multiple languages to connect with his friends during fun activities, this helps shape his identity.

Education

this quote shows evidence

"Its easier to be an insider then in outsider than to be an outsider as an insider." ( 118 p.)

Evidence can be seen in the next quote

"When I was growing up, my mom spent a lot of time trying to teach me about women" (127 p.)

Ruthless

made

"Then all of a sudden its planet of the apes" (p 120)

"By that point Id developed thick skin. I was used to being bullied." p(122)

Clever

"Thats when I learned: time is money. I realized people would pay me to buy their food because I was willing to run for it." (p 140)

Trevor struggles with relationships, like the one with Babiki because their inability to communicate due to language barrier and cultural differences made their night awkward

Teddy and Trevor come from the same living style and cultural background, which made them surprisingly very similar personalities. Because of that Trevor finally feels like someone understands him.

"Dont fuck with me. I will kill you." (p 126)

"Yo Trevor, your date does not speak English" (176 p.)

This quote support the claim

Unstable

"With Teddy, I'd finally met someone who made me feel normal" (153 p.)

"But in that moment I knew exactly what I had to say to get the monster on my side" (p 124)

This quote was when the kids dad confronted Abel after he punished him severely for bullying Trevor, showing his agressivenes and impulsiveness only caring about himself and having no regard for any other person or their feelings.

This quote has Trevor talking about Abel and calling him a "monster" showing how dangerous and scary he is if it has Trevor calling him a monster. Trevor was scared of him in his own house just because of how he snapped some times.

Language

Trevor was going to get bullied but because he could speak the same African language as them they let him go.

Trevor says this while talking about how being black was normalised after apartheid showing how sarcastic he is and how he can be easy going about harsh topics like racism that can be related to him.

This is Trevor talking about the Mulberry tree incident when he has berries pelted at him. This quote shows how resilient, and fierce he is.

This quote shows Trevors cheekyness and his clever insight on the lunch queue and how he could make money out of it.

Religion

Trevor doesnt really take religion seriously but just because his family and his culture repects it so much he has to aswell

"So lets give this Jesus thing a shot" (p 6)

"Oh, sorry dude. We thought you were something else... We were trying to steal from white people." (p 56)

Communication

When Trevor argued with his mothr she would ask him to write letters to communicate because she knew she couldnt win a verbal argument against Trevor so they would wirte leeters to each other when they argued as a way pof communication to solve their problems.

"By the time I was seven or eight i was too smart to be tricked, so she changed tactics ... So she started writting me letters " (p 82)

apartheid

Noahs mother had Noah during apartheid and had to raise him keeping a low profile, she had noah with a swiss white man while she was living in a white area of south africa because she refused to leave for apartheid this shows how resilient and hard headed Patricica is when It comes to beiliefs and social norms.

"My mom, however, was a rebel, and, fortunately for her, her rebellion came along at the right moment." (p 23)

Resourceful

One day it was raining outside and Trevor had to take a shit but the bathroom was outside the house in a shed that did not stop rain from coming in, so not to get wet and enjoy his shit trevor had it on a piece of newspaper on the kitchen floor and then threw it away.

"So thats what I did. I took the newspaper, laid it out on the kitchen floor, pulled down my pants, and squatted and got to it." (p 43)

Trevor was raised in a way that he was shown he could acomplish anything he had in mind and he in a way in which he felt he had no limitations due to his race or what he could do. In this time of racism and limitations for coloured people trevor felt as if he was raised like a white kid.

"My mom raised me as if there were no limitations on where I could go or what i could do. When I look back I realize she raised me like a white kid... that my ideas and thoughts and decisions mattered."
(p 73)

Love

Noah used to hace a dog named fufi when he was younger and one day Fufi jumped the fence and got into a neighbours house, once trevor tried to get fufi back the neighbours wouldnt give her back and fufi wouldnt respond to trevor leaving him very sad. This taught him that you cant own a being and make them love you.

"I called to her, i begged her to come. fufi was deaf to my pleas" (p 99)
