- - - - My learning style would be a combination of a Diverger learner and a Kinesthetic learner
        
        I enjoy working with others and consider myself an extrovert.
        
        I like trying to understand where others are coming from and how they form their opinions.
        
        I assess my learning style mainly by trial and error. If I am not grasping a topic I often will test myself to see where my knowledge is lacking. Once I understand what I still need to learn, I may look up a video to explain it or study a diagram. Or I will speak with colleagues to have a group discussion to see if it sinks in better.
        
        A way to understand a learner's learning style is to use an assessment tool.
        
        Questionnaires: checklists are a self-assessment of learning styles. VARK is a common one that is used. This is confidential and students may feel more comfortable being honest.
        
        Focus groups: use group discussions with a facilitator and ask open ended questions to assess learning needs. The environment would need to foster safety and learners would need to feel comfortable admitting what they do and do not know.
        
        Tests: by giving a pre-test prior to teaching, the educator can assess the knowledge of their learners to make sure the material is appropriately presented. This is especially useful to guide the curriculum and place special emphasis on topics that multiple learners may need more clarification on.
        
        By knowing that I need multiple ways to learn a topic, I will assess my learners by using a variety of learner assessments and teaching techniques.
        
        Using multiple methods of teaching will ensure that all learners will understand the material with different learning styles
        
        Use observation and feedback to ensure learners are understanding the material and switch technique when appropriate

        Viewing a film/video (visual learner, right brain, converger)
        
        Use of other educators to give variety in teaching style (accomadator, diverger)
        
        Hands on experience while verbal instruction is given (Kinesthetic, diverger, assimilator, right brain)
        
        Demonstrations (diverger, accomadator, converger)
        
        Reading materials/handouts (read/write learner, left brain)
        
        Must assess the learners readiness to learn to ensure material is absorbed correctly.

        Experiential readiness
        
        Knowledge readiness
        
        I learn best when something is explained and then I complete the task myself.
        
        I would like to work on valuing theory and being more technical, such as an assimilator.
