Basic Measuring Methods
Position transmitting
Variable Resitance Signals
Adjust resistance based on temperature, rotation or pressure
Synchros
Converts mechanical angles into AC electrical signals using a rotor and three stator coils
Direct Torquer System
Produces AC signals with angular data using synchro transmitters.
Servo Systems
Amplifies signals from synchro receivers to provide more torque.
LVDT/RVDT
Converts linear (LVDT) or rotational (RVDT) positions into electrical signals.
Pressure Measuring Instruments
Absolute Pressure Instruments
Uses a metal capsule to measure pressure relative to a vacuum.
Bellows
Measures low pressure by expanding and moving a pointer via gears
Strain Gages
Detects force by changing resistance in a stretched or compressed wire
Temperature Indication
NTC/PTC Resistors
NTC decreases, PTC increases resistance with temperature.
Bridge Circuits
Measures temperature changes using a temperature-sensitive resistor.
Thermocouples
Measures high temperatures by generating voltage between two metals.
Quantity Indication Systems
DC Electrical Indicators
Measures fuel/oil quantities using a variable resistor and a current indicator.
Capacitance Systems
Measures fuel mass by detecting changes in capacitance between two concentric tubes.
