Data collection methods
Primary
Email: Data and information can be gathered using email. An email can be sent that includes an interactive for to be completed or a link to an online questionnaire or survey.
Interview: An interview is a conversation between two people in which questions are asked. For this reason, interviews are usually completed one to one, face to face. The questions to be asked need to be planned in advance, based on how the data and information collected will be processed. \the interviewer asks questions of the interviewee.
Online question/ surveys: A questionnaire/survey contains a set of questions that are designed to collect data and information from the people completing the questionnaire or survey. A range of types of questions can be asked, including: closed question, open question, rank order, rating.
Online questionnaire and surveys are technology-based. The questionnaire/survey can be provided by email, on a website or in the cloud.
Secondary
Books and magazines: Can be used to collect data and information. However, the data and information these include can be out of date. This is because of the time it takes for these to be published.
Government statistics and websites: A wide range of statistics that have already been collected can be found on websites. These statistics can be analysed to provide further data and information.
Data Validation
A range of validation tools can be sued to check that the data being entered is sensible and reasonable. The aim of validation tools in a solution is to alert the user if there are errors in the data that has been entered. The errors could be highlighted by, for example, am error or message red box around the data entry field.
