Different people and cultures have different beliefs of what is a normal size family. Where the culture is that families are bigger than normal. The Population will be higher.

Infant Mortality
When people have more better access to hospitals, doctors, and health services, more children will survive past the age of 1. They will be more likely to survive until adulthood. Better health care also leads to elderly people living longer.
Agricultural Revolution
During the 1700's ish, humans started to apply technology to farming. This meant more food per area of land. More food means better nutrition which increased life expectancy, so the global population started to go up.

The age of people in a population affects and changes how fast it grows. Countries that have more kids and people from 15-40, population will grow much more faster than other countries that has a high amount of elderly.
Empowering Women
Education
When education becomes better in some countries, the average age of people marrying increases because more people stay in school and start a career. Women who tend to marry later on in life usually wouldn't have more children. Which make the birth rate lower.
Economy
The economy sometimes dictates whether you have a large family or not. A strong and stable economy gives more people an opportunity for jobs and better education to learn. When there are more jobs, more people fill them out. A population with more jobs that are employed by females sometimes has a lower birth rate.
