Factors of Population Growth
Social Attitudes
Different cultures have different standards for family size and how many babies are born in a family. If big families are common in a culture, the population's growth rate may be higher.
Senegal has the biggest families in the world, with most families there having 10 to 12 members!!!
Hong Kong is one of the countries in the world that has the least number of children per family: Average 0.8 Children
Education
Education levels in a population almost directly influences the birth rate in that population. If there is more education provided to people in a population, especially women, the women tend to marry later in life.
When women marry later, they tend to have less children, which therefore lowers the birth rate of that particular population. If there is less education provided, there will be more children born.
Agricultural Revolution
During the 1700's ish humans stated to apply technology to farming. This meant more food per area of land. More food means better nutrition which increased life expectancy, so the global population started to go up
-
Age Distribution
The ratios and proportions of younger and older aged people in a population influences how fast the population grows.
-
Health Care (Infant Mortality)
With better healthcare, the newborn babies in a population are more likely to survive to adulthood, and more likely to live longer.
More babies surviving to adulthood also means more babies will be born because the babies who survived will make babies too.
-
Ultimately, the overall population will grow.
Economy
People living in an area with a strong economy are provided with more opportunities for jobs and education.
Stability in the economy of an area reduces the need for a large family because when the economy is stable, a small family can easily carry themselves financially, and there is no need for many members of a family to be working and raise money.
Industrial Revolution
The new technology in farming meant less people had to work as farmers. They moved to the city for jobs in factories, usually making fabric.
