Round Arches allowed for even weight distribution, making it possible to build larger and more durable structures. This feature also gave the Romanesque a more sturdy appearance.

these vaulting techniques enabled architects to span larger interior spaces and support heavier ceilings. groin vaults allowed more of a flexible layout and better weight distribution which eventually paved the way for gothic style vaulting.
