Age of Population
If a country has many young people between the ages if 15 and 45 the population will grow quicker that a country that has an older population over the age of 50.
Japan age of population is very high which results in less babies because most the people that live in Japan are older.

Mexico age of population is very low which results in more babies because a lot of the population Mexico is young.

Health
Agricultural Revolution
In about 1700 humans started to apply technology to farming this meant more food could be grown per area of land. More food equals healthier people equals more population.

Industrial Revolution
Because of new tech in farming less people needed to work as a farmer so the shift began from the farm to the city.
People moved to the city to get new jobs in the new factories running on steam power created by coal. Amazing new technology was created in the city. The steam engine, generated electricity by burning coal and creating steam, new medicine and vaccines, better nutrition, underground sewer systems, flush toilets. All these advances in technology meant people were living longer and the infant mortality began to decrease so the population of the planet grew very quickly. Fast global growth rate.

Infant Mortality Rate
When there is a lot more food a better healthcare babies don't die as much and more people live longer. This would lead to a higher growth rate and the population would increase. But third world countries may have a lower infant mortality rate because the healthcare is not as good and they may not have really clean water and good food.

Econemy
Living in an area with a strong Economy can provide more opportunities for jobs and education. If women have good access to education they will stay in school longer and get married at an older age and therefore have fewer children.

Education
As education levels increase the average marriage age increases. Women who marry later trend to have fewer children, which lowers the birth rate. When women get good access to education they are more empowered and get a good job the usually means they get married later and have fewer children.
