6 levels of taxonomy
-
Suborder
Definition: Based primarily on excess wetness and temperature that affect soil formation or major cropping choices
Adelphia series: in Hapludults the ud is where you fin the suborder and this one means udic. Udic means that the soil has enough moisture to sustain crops.
-
-
Subgroup
Definition: if not typically, identifies a major property that affects its use or shows a relation with some other higher classification
Adelphia series: the aquatic in the taxonomic name means that the soil is more wet that it would normally be for a Hapludults
-
Family
Definition: Particle size minerology, CE activity, soil temperature that effect use and management (mostly for agricultural use)
Adelphia series: Fine-loamy, mixed, active, mesic. This means that the soil is fine-loamy and the CEC is active
Andry Series: Fine-silty, mixed, superactive, thermic. This means that the soil is a fine silty texture, it has a high CEC (this is from the superactive part) and thermic means that it is in lower tempertures
Series
Definition: most defined classification level for soil individuals. All members of the series have similar parent material, horizons, depth and overall morphology
Adelphia series: the series name would be Adelphia Series and this is the compilation of all of the previous definitions
