Definition Breakdown: This soil is apart of the order Spodosols, the subgroup aquic (aqu) meaning characteristics of wetness, the great group (al) meaning high aluminum, low iron, the subgroup Aeric meaning that are somewhat better drained than other soils in their associated great group, and the family Sandy (particle size-class), siliceous (mineralogy class), and mesic (having an annual soil temperature of 8 to 15 degrees celsius). To bring it all together, soils within this series are spodosols that have a greater wetness and higher levels of aluminum and lower iron. With this too, this Alaquod is better drained than its great group, and is apart of the family of soils that contains a sandy texture, siliceous mineralogy, and a soil annual temperature of 8 to 15 degrees celsius.
