His mom told him that at the end of the war, you don't wipe away tears, you bury bodies

Key Themes
Human powerlessness - the film shows the powerlessness of humans in the face of natural disasters, and Rolf's attempts to save Azucena symbolise this powerlessness.
Trauma - Through his relationship with Azucena, Rolf is forced to confront his repressed past trauma, which becomes a key element of his transformation.
The role of the media in disasters - a look at how the media covers disasters, how these events are communicated to the public, and how the media consumes and portrays these events.
Summary
The girl, Azucena, who barely had a head protruding from the mud pit became a symbol of the tragedy. Even though Rolf Carle was a reporter, he was working to save Azucena.
He comforts Azucena with wishful thinking and words of comfort. He needs a pump to get Azucena out of the mud and keeps trying to get one. However, things weren't getting better and they were not getting the things they needed. In this situation, Rolf Carle sees Azucena and is reminded of his own childhood trauma.
Eventually Azucena passed away and he confessed that he loved her. Rolf Carle watches a video of Azucena and blames himself for her death. His wife, the narrator of the book, knows that when he returns from your nightmares, Rolf Carle and I shall again walk hand in hand, as before.
