Natural Science
The weather in Autumn
In Autumn, the weather turns colder. (Twinkle, 2024) The days will start to get shorter and some trees might lose their leaves. Before they drop, they can turn stunning shades of yellow, orange and red. (Twinkle, 2024)
Activity: The learners will go outside to collect different leaves, we will then look at the leaves in the classroom and determine what colour they are and why they have changed colour.
How Nature is affected
Autumn is characterised by decreasing daylengths and cooling temperatures, and these have noticeable effects on the organisms around us. (Webber, 2023) Changes in leaf colour (tinting), leaf fall (abscission), and bird migration can all be used as markers of when autumn is occurring. (Webber, 2023)
Activity: The learners can go and look at the time that the sunsets and the sun rises for a week.

How people are affected
affects the state of our body is the progressive reduction of the hours of light, a change that impacts our mood, making us more subject to mild states of anxiety and melancholy. (Lifestyle, N.d.)
Activity: The learners will write down their emotions of the day everyday for a week and see how the change in daylight and night time affected their emotions.
What we eat
Root vegetables: carrots, squash, pumpkin and sweet potato. Whole grains: brown rice, quinoa, oats and millet. Legumes: beans, chickpeas, lentils, soybeans. Green vegetables: broccoli, spinach, kale, celery, rocket and artichokes. (Clinic, 2017)
Activity: The learners will try some of these foods to see if they like Autumn food or not.
Technology
What we wear in Autumn
In Autumn, the weather turns colder. (Twinkle, 2024) It's common to start wearing coats, and sometimes even scarves and hats as the temperature drops. (Twinkle, 2024)The weather can often turn wetter as well- wellington boots are a good choice to keep your feet dry. (Twinkle, 2024)
Activity: The learners can bring some clothes from home to school to experiment what is better to wear in Autumn.
Transport in Autumn
Activity: We will look at different transportation in South African and determine what will be best to use in Autumn as the weather will be windy and cold.
