Global Population Growth:
Health
Agricultural Revolution
During the Agricultural Revolution technology was applied to farming to grow more food on the same area of land.
-
Industrial Revolution
New technology means you need fewer famers so people moved to the city. This began the industrial revolution and new technology steam engine and sanitation, medicine, vaccines, better nutrition, all of this means less babies are dying and more people living longer, (lower infant Mortality and longer life expectancy) so the global population went up.
-
Infant Mortality Rate
Where people have access to hospitals, doctors, and health services, more children are likely to survive to adulthood. Better healthcare can increase the growth rate.
-
-
Social Attitudes
Depending on the country you live in there are different versions of what makes a normal family size, in North American 2 or 4 kids is normal, in Kenya 5 or 6 kids is normal.
-
Canada
In Canada people typically have 2 or 3 kids, therefore their families are smaller.
-
Age of Population
Countries that are generally younger will have faster growth rates,(Mexico). Countries that are generally older will have slower growth rates(Japan).
-
Mexico
Mexico's population is younger, so they have a faster growth rate.
-
Empowering Women
Education
When women do not have good access to education they often get married young and start a family, resulting in more years of having babies, which results in higher fertility. Think Somalia, 2.5 years of school, 6 children per mom.
-
Economy
In poor countries where many people are farmers it can be financially advantageous to have more children(more workers), so fertility rates tend to be high in poor farming economies. In wealthy countries where most women are working, people tend to get marries at older ages and therefore have fewer children(lower fertility).
