New technology means you need fewer farmers so people moved to the city. This began the industry revolution and new technology steam engine and sanitation, medicine, vaccines, better nutrition, all of this means less babies are dying and more people are living longer, (Lower infant Mortality and longer life expectancy) so global population went up.

Agricultural Revolution
During the agricultural revolution technology was applied to farming to grow more food on the same area of land.

Economy
In wealthy countries where most women are working people tend to get married at older ages and therefore have fewer children. (lower fertility).
Education
When woman do not have good access to education the often get married young and start a family, resulting in more years of having babies, which results in higher fertility. Think Somalia, 2.5 years of school, 6 children per mom.

Social Attitudes
Depending on the country you live in there are different versions of what makes a normal family size, in North America 2 or 3 kids is normal, in Keya 5 or 6 kids is normal.
