Space, The Pilgrims were leaving England on the Mayflower to colonize…

Introduction
Claim - I claim that the Earth's role in the universe is to be part of a Solar System. Without the Earth many different things could've happened.
Connection - Pilgrims
Why did you choose it? I chose Pilgrims because they like the universe changed over time and had a starting point

Big Bang
Claim - Everything that is here today started with a Big Bang 13.8 billion years ago. It started with a singularity rapidly expanding and started to create elements that created galaxies and Solar Systems.
Evidence
Cosmic Calendar - The Big Bang was the first thing that happened 13.8 billion years ago. 1 billion years later the first stars started to light up. Those stars started to create Galaxies and Solar Systems, like the Milky Way. Stars started to be born as some of those stars started to die. That continued in a loop until the Earth was made and the first life forms were founded.
Origin Stories - There are many different stories about how the universe was made. The Big Bang happened 13.8 billion years ago and it started with nothing. Hydrogen was created and gravity clumped hydrogen molecules together getting really hot and combining to make stars. As the stars ran out of fuel they blew up and the star guts were used to make more and more stars. Planets started to get created through the star guts creating Solar Systems.
Connection - When the Pilgrims started to colonize the United States they started off rough but started to colonize and grow bigger and bigger. They found new ways of doing things and created new things to help them live. Pilgrims died but left their children and relied on them to keep there people going.
Evidence from Big Bang - There was a singularity that rapidly expanded everything. A guy named Hubble published a distance velocity relation showing that farther galaxies are moving further away from us. Penzias and Wilson made the Bell antenna and were able to find microwave signals between galaxies and determined that every galaxy was moving away from each other.
Stars
Claim - Stars change the universe by giving off heat and lot. They are also the centerpiece of solar systems. Humans use stars and constellations to find their way around.
Evidence
Formation - Hydrogen and helium is required for a star to be able to form. Gravity pulls those elements together. The more gravity pulls the hotter it gets until those elements fuse together to start the star. The more hydrogen and helium there is the more gravity pulls them together heating up faster.
Connection - There were a group of people that lived in Plymouth that disagreed with what was going on. Those people left and were called Pilgrims. They then found a good space to live and start creating a new place. They died and had kids creating a lifecycle there where they settled. If they did not settle where they did America would not be the same today.
Lifecycle - A star will form with hydrogen and helium. Then in the star there is fusion being cause due to gravity making the star become really hot and bright. That is the main sequence of a star until the star runs out of hydrogen. The star will try to fuse things together but can't cause the star to expand. Then it will run out of helium and blow up. Then the star turns into a dwarf.
Importance - Stars are important because they give off light and heat. Stars create images for people on earth and help the people to be able to find their way around earth. Humans a long time ago needed a way to find their way around and started to create images using the stars and humans used that method to find their way around for many years. People used different constellations depending on the time of day. Some constellations you can only see during a certain time period. Scientists studied the constellations for many years to determine what time period you can see the constellation.
Solar System
Claim - That the sun is the center of the Solar System and the planets orbit around the sun. The closer planets are hotter and the further the planet is the colder it is.
Evidence
Formation - Planets are made out of stars that blew up and like a star needed elements to fuse together. Planets will start to orbit around a star until there are enough planets to create a solar system. For a planet to be habitable there need to be water, the right temperature, atmosphere, and plants. Without those things a planet would not be habitable.
Organization - Our solar system can be referred to a football field. You can map the planets out by yards a see a little replica of the solar system. The sun is the center of the solar system and the planets orbit around it. There are 8 planets in our solar system. The farther the planet is from the sun the slower it orbits because there is less gravity from the sun.
Connection - As the pilgrims started to colonize the new land they started to change and make things better. They started figuring out how to get water to and from places. Their houses started to become more sturdy and strong. The pilgrims needed different types of people with them like doctors, hunters, house wives, builders. and more to be able to live.
Baby Earth - There are 3 main layers, core, mantle, and crust. Those layers were formed when the Earth was a fiery pit and the heavy elements like iron and nickel sunk to the core. The moon’s rocks are chemically similar to Earth’s rocks because there was an asteroid that hit Earth breaking chunks of it off and sending it into space. The moon formed by little chunks of rock that were pulled together by gravity and got really hot fusing together creating a moon. There are amino acids in asteroids. When the asteroid hit Earth there was water in the rocks and some of those rocks stuck to earth.
Reflection - During the space unit I have learned more details and got a better understanding of space. There are many different things going on in space than just planets and stars. New stars and planets are being created from old stars that died. I used to think that when stars blew up there was nothing left and it all disintegrated. Now I know that the leftovers from the star create new stars. The skills that helped me the most were to write in the notebook and pay attention.
The Pilgrims were leaving England on the Mayflower to colonize somewhere else because they did not agree with what was going on in England.
-
The types of people that were on the Mayflower. If the Mayflower held only women or only men that all did the same job then the Pilgrims would not have made it in the new land.
These were all of the notes that helped me through the space unit. It is the Table of Contents with all of the notes.
