Mechanism of action
Increases the strength of connection where GABA binds
Increase in bind strengthens the action of GABA which is a neurotransmitter inhibitor
Indications/ Therapeutic uses
Used to induce general anesthesia
patient will be sedated and will not have any movement during procedure
SIde effects
Adverse
Allergic reaction like rashes, difficulty breathing, swelling in face and lips
palpitations, irregular heart beat, slow heart beat
uncontrollable head, mouth, neck, arm or leg movement
hiccups
pain, redness, or irritation where the medication was injected
Upset stomach
Contraindications
Any previous known reactions
Pediatrics, could interrupt brain development
adrenal suppression
pregnancy or breastfeeding
renal impairment
Patient Education
avoid driving or operating any machinery until effects completely wear off
Call doctor immediately if any adverse effects begin to present
Ensure to get clearance before taking any substances like alcohol or marijuana or want to use OTC medications
