Social and Behavioral Sciences and Public Health
Social Systems and how they affect public health
Enforcing self control patterns: rules and regulations can improve the overall health of a population.
Provide opportunities to engage in healthy behavior: Having access to things like a public gym encourages people to work out, improving the population health
Shape norms: everyone else is being unsafe/unhealthy so Its okay for me to also.
Encouraging healthy coping strategies
Socioeconomics
While greater socioeconomic status does not correlate to longer life span, it does correlate with access to things like better healthcare, living conditions, food, environments, and healthy occupations.
Culture
Different cultures have different responses to health issues and habits that can cause issues
Religion
Religion may restrict people from getting the treatment that would technically be most effective
Change in Individual behavior
In recent years many healthy behaviors have decreased in favor of unhealthy ones.
There is hope because behavior can be changed and encouraged.

Preparation: Plan and set goals for how to make the change
Action: positive feedback for change
Contemplation: Assess pros and cons of change
