Unsustainable Fashion Brands
PRETTY LITTLE THING
'Little of its supply chain is certified by labour standards which ensure worker health and safety, living wages or other labour rights. It received a score of 21-30% in the 2022 Fashion Transparency Index. There is no evidence it implements practices to encourage diversity and inclusion in its direct operations or supply chain. There is no evidence it ensures payment of a living wage in its supply chain. It does not disclose adequate policies or safeguards to protect suppliers and workers in its supply chain from the impacts of COVID-19.
Its animal rating is 'not good enough'. There is no evidence it has a policy to minimise the suffering of animals. It uses leather, down and wool. It does not use fur, angora exotic animal skin or hair. (Good on you, 2024)
BOOHOO
None of its supply chain is certified by crucial labour standards that help ensure worker health and safety, living wages, and other rights. There’s no evidence it ensures workers are paid living wages in its supply chain. (Good on you, 2024)
SHIEN
'Shien follows an unsustainable fast fashion model with quickly changing trends and regular new styles. On top of that, brands mass-producing such cheap, poorly-made clothing perpetuate a throwaway fashion culture simply by existing.' (Good on you, 2023)
MISSGUIDED
It follows an unsustainable fast fashion model with quickly changing trends and regular new styles. It sources its final stage of production from countries with extreme risk of labour abuse. There’s no evidence it ensures workers are paid living wages in its supply chain. (Good on you, 2024)

The Effects of Overconsumption in Fast Fashion
:red_flag:
Waste Generation: - Fast fashion promotes a culture of disposability,
Fads cause people to purchase items they don't need to keep up with trends
Resource Depletion: - The production of cheap clothing requires vast amounts of water and energy
Most fast fashion pieces only last less than 10 wears before they fall apart and are thrown in landfills – UCLA Sustainability
Cheap, fast fashion clothing is made of worse materials like polyester, which does not decompose. Since the quality is poor and the clothing doesn’t last, it ends up in landfills or waterways. These clothes can break up even further into microplastics which pollute our planet even more and are harder to clean up.
The impact of fast fashion
Poor working conditions created, these working conditions are inhumane and pay a wage that is worth 20 p a day.
The effect on our planet
Animal-based textiles such as wool are responsible for greenhouse gas emissions, water pollution, widespread habitat loss from deforestation and grassland conversion, and other harms to wildlife. In fast fashion, wool is commonly blended with fibers derived from fossil fuels and coated with chemicals, further increasing the environmental cost of production and disposal of these garments.
The fashion industry is thought to be responsible for around 10% of global carbon emissions,
Destruction of natural habitats due to the need for resources quickly in fast fashion.
