Food Systems - food processing, food chains and growing the food
The learners can be given a worksheet of different animals and they would be required to link the food chain of how the different animals eat. This shows the learners that we all need living organisms in order to survive ( National Geographic, 1996)
Geography - where vegetables come from, colours and shapes of vegetables.
The teacher will take the learners around the school and show them different places that vegetables can grow such as the soil this will teach the learners where we can grow our vegetables we eat instead of just buying them from the grocery stores. (SA Health, 2024)
Natural Sciences
Agriculture - Different types of vegetables, tastes and textures of vegetables
The teachers can organize a veggie show for the learners where they will taste and feel the different vegetables, this shows the learners that eating healthy foods can be delicious.
Nutrition and Health - tastes and textures of vegetables, what vegetables provide us with, why it is important to eat vegetables.
The learners can be given a worksheet of a lunchbox where they would have to draw all the different foods to make a well balanced lunch, this will encourage the learners to eat more healthy ( SA Health, 2024)
Technology
Food Processing and Preservation - different types of vegetables, where vegetables come from, how we get our vegetables.
The teacher will do an experiment with the learners and show them that fresh vegetables expire quicker than persevered vegetables, the teacher will show the learners the results. This will teach the learners that the way vegetables are made, they are meant to be eaten fresh as that's when they give us the most nutrients. (WHO, 2024)
Environmental sustainability - growing your vegetables at home or on a farm, buying fresh vegetables
The teacher will show the learners videos based on the differences of store bought vegetables and fresh vegetables. This will teach the learners that fresh vegetables are more expensive because they provide us with more nutritious values.
