Belgium from the Flemish Renaissance
to the romantic paintings of the 20th century
Belgian waffles gained their popularity
at the 1960 World Fair in New York,
where Maurice Vermersch first named
them the "Brussels Waffle". They are
dated back to the 17th century.
Beer! There are well over
1500 plus types of beers in Belgium and each one of the has its own glass. Dates
back to the 12th century but rose to its peak in
the 17th century when the Trappist monasteries
began brewing beer as an alternative to
drinking unsafe water.
Originates from Southern Belgium
where fishermen of the 17th century began to fry
potatoes as a substitute to fish in the winter when
the water was frozen. They are commonly mistaken
as originating from France.

Luxembourg, France, Germany
and the Netherlands
The are where Belgium is located belonged
to the Roman Empire for four centuries.They named the
place after the settlers there,the Belgie. its name was
Belgica and later transformed to Belgium.
On October 4 1830, Belgium's Declaration of
Independence from the Northern Netherlands
was established
Monarchy
It has been passed down from generation to generation
of the Saxe-Coburg and Gotha family. There has been 7 reigning kings since its establish in 1831including the current King of Belgium, King Phillipe(since 2013).
It is divided into 10 Provinces, 581 Municipalities
and three common regions,the Flemish (Flanders)
located North of the country,the Walloons(Wallonia)
located South of the country and the Brussels Capital
in the middle of the country.
The Grand Place Splendor(Grote Markt) was built
from the 11th to the 17th century only to be destroyed
by the French troops in the war with only a few buildings surviving.It was then rebuilt years later and has been a UNESCO world heritage site since 1998.

of the world with 85% of the rough

been turned into a museum and became one the top
tourist spots in Brussels.

a Belgian, Alain Billet during the 1992
World Exhibition in Seville.
