Matter - Coggle Diagram
Matter
Liquid
No Definite Shape:Flow freely in the container it is in
Definite Vol : Cannot be compressed
Why liq flow slowly out of container
Why liq flow slowly into container
Anything that
HAS MASS and OCCUPIES SPACE
Has mass (weight)
mass refers to amt of substance an obj contains
Mass of obj is the same on earth and moon
A bigger sized obj does not indicate greater mass
than a smaller sized obj
An obj contains more matter has a greater mass
Occupies
Space (Vol)
Volume refers to the amt of space an obj occupies
A bigger sized obj occupies bigger space/larger vol
An obj dropped into a beaker of water, water level increase
Displace: To place something is to occupy the space previously occupied by another matter.
For a matter to enter/escape a container,
another matter must displace the matter
Non matter
Light
does not occupy space and mass, hence it can pass through water in
pond.
Shadow
does not occupy space and mass. hence a boy can stand where the shadows of the window blinds are formed.
Heat
does not occupy space and mass. hence heat can pass through concrete walls and glass windows
Sound
does not occupy space and mass,
hence sound can pass through wall
Solid
Definite Shape
Shape can change when a force is exerted on it
Vol cannot be measured directly
Do not take the shape of the container they are in
Definite Vol : Cannot be compressed
Unchange Vol and Mass
Gas
No Definite Shape:Flow freely in the container it is in
No Definite Vol:
Can be compressed
able to push more air into an inflated ball
plunger of syringe filled with air can be pressed down as air ia gaseous and gases can be compressedas they have no definite vol
When a container is filled with both liq and gas, the vol of gas relies on vol of liq as liq has definite vol but gases do not. When more liq is added into the comtainer, vol of gas decreases as gas is compressed by the liq, if the liq ia removed, vol of gas increases as there is now more space for the gas to occupy
