Why this project?
Why you?
Why at your institution?
Why this sponsor?
Why now?

Abstract
Write a concise abstract that includes all the main
points of your proposal:
Background
Unknown or problem/statement of need
Overall objective of the proposal
General strategy
Significance/Impact
make sure stating and closing sentences are power transitions
Specific aims
The Specific Aims section may be a separate section by itself or may be combined with the Abstract
This description typically summarizes the preliminary results or
rationale, the hypothesis, and the approach for each aim
Background -provides context and preliminary results for each aim. Statement of Need- is a key component that helps to persuade the audience to further support whatever the proposal may be.

PROPOSAL GUIDELINES
Follow instructions EXACTLY.
Include the following sections in a proposal:
Abstract:
Include: background, unknown/problem/need, overall objective, general strategy, and significance/impact.
Pay attention to the first and the last sentence.
Include a statement of need.
Clearly identify the overall objective.
Specific Aims:
List your specific aims in precise language.
Introduction/Background:
Include: background, statement of need, aim/hypothesis (optional)
Provide context and preliminary results for each aim.
Research Design:
Include: rationale/hypothesis (not always required), experimen-
tal design analysis, expected results, alternative strategies (not always required).
Describe the approach for each specific aim in detail.
Organize the section into subsections according to the specific aims.
Significance/Impact:
End the proposal with a broad impact statement.
Costs should be realistic and justified.
