culture: helps people make judgements about the world and decisions about behavior
religion: social factors affecting health include religions, which can be seen as a special component of culture
socioeconomic status: family income educational level or parents educational level and their professional status

stage of change for safer sex: assessed condoms being used in last 90 days
sexual attitude scales: pros of condom use were assessed using five items related to condoms
substance abuse: alcohol and marijuana were measured, participants were asked how often in the last 30 days each of the two were used
