Parts of a vegetable - roots, leaves, stems(Postharvest.net.au, n.d.)
A discussion about the parts of vegetables will be done with the learners. The teacher will cut open/display different vegetables and show these to the learners and explain the different parts. The learners will need to design their own vegetable (an existing vegetable) and determine what materials they could use.
Food processing
Transformation of vegetables - caning, freezing, pickling.(Encyclopaedia Britannica, 2023)
Learners will be able to create the different types of food processing. A discussion about the types of food processing will be done. Vegetables that can be pickled (onions) along with vinegar will be placed into a jar by the teacher and discussed amongst the class. Vegetables will have been chopped up and placed into bags that will be placed into a freezer.

Growing crops for food. (Encyclopaedia Britannica, 2024)
A discussion about general farming will take place - What happens on farms? How do we farm vegetables? Learners will have the opportunity to get involved in a large discussion and then identify from the vegetable cards available, what they think grows on farms.
Nutrition & health
Vitamins, strong immune system, helps fight illness. (Verywell Health, 2023)
The teacher will discuss the health benefits of certain vegetables - the learners will be asked to create their own "health" cards to tell us what each vegetable is good for.
Natural Science
Types of vegetables
Lettuce, cucumber, tomato, potato, brocoli

Vegetables are displayed at the front of the classroom and learners are allowed to come up and view these. A discussion about the vegetables will be done while the learners observe.
