Different types of vegetables will be sorted and classified according to colours and shapes.
A vegetable theme table with a tactile sensory bin with realistic-looking toy vegetables buried in actual soil will be displayed in the classroom.
Learners will search in the soil for vegetables, rinse them in a water-filled container, and then classify them according to their shapes and colours.
For example, leafy vegetables (lettuce), fruit vegetables (tomatoes) and their shapes for example round, oval, cylindrical etc.
The hands-on nature of this activity will develop learners’ science process skills of observation (Naudé and Meier, 2020:85).
