Different types of vegetables
(South Africa, 2011:20)
I will give the learners real-life vegetables, and they will
classify and sort them according to the different types that
we learnt about
Life and living
Types of vegetables: bulbs, flowers, fruits, fungi,
leaves, roots, seeds, stems, tubers
(Food Dudes, 2022)
Tastes and textures of
vegetables
(South Africa, 2011:20)
Life and living
I will give the learners real-life vegetables, and they will
have a small bite to compare the tastes and textures of
different vegetables
Raw vegetables can be hard
and crispy. Cooked
vegetables can be soft.
Some vegetables are
juicy

Technology
Colours and shapes of vegetables
(South Africa, 2011:20)
Structures
I will create a report card to print out
for the learners with the names of
the different vegetables that we've
learnt about. They will need to draw
the vegetable (the shape of the
vegetable) of the name on the
report card and colour it in the right
colour to communicate their findings
Red vegetables: red pepper, beetroot.
Orange vegetables: carrot, butternut.
White vegetables: cauliflower, onion.
Green vegetables: broccoli, spinach
(Fruits and veggies, 2024)
Vegetable gardens
Materials, tools and safety
The learners and I will make a
vegetable garden at school. We will
use the correct materials and tools
needed for our garden to thrive, and
we will discuss safety when it
comes to using gardening tools
and working outside

Where vegetables come from
(South Africa, 2011:20)
Place
I will play the YouTube video "Popular
Vegetables from Different Countries |
Comparison Video" by the YouTube
channel Red Data. I will read the name of
the countries and vegetables out loud to the
learners as they appear in the video

Producing vegetables in an
environmentally friendly way
Conservation
I will get a guest speaker in, who works in envirnomental
farming, to speak to the learners about the importance
of growing and producing vegetables (and food)
in a way that doesn't harm the environment
Over producing food uses
lots of fresh water, pollutes
water and the land, and
destroys the homes of wildlife
