Located in each intercostal space, from the posterior to the anterior thoracic wall
Elevate the ribs
Inspiration
Extrinsic muscles of the thorax
Partially attach to the thoracic cage, also belonging to the upper limb, back, and abdomen
Elevate the ribs during inspiration
