Key Stages 1 - 4 National Curriculum:
Music in KS1:
Pupils should use their voices expressively, singing, chanting, rhyming,
Play tuned / untuned instruments.
Listen with concentration / understanding to range of high quality live / recorded music.
Music in KS2:
Pupils should play / perform in solo / ensemble contexts, using voice / instruments with increasing accuracy, fluency, control / expression.
Improvise / compose music for a range of purposes
Listen with attention to detail / recall sound with increasing aural memory
Develop an understanding of the history of music.
Music in KS3:
Perform / listen to / review / evaluate music across a range of historical periods / genres / styles / traditions, including work of musicians.
Learn to sing / use their own voice, create / compose music on their own / with others, learn a musical instrument, use technology appropriately.
Understand / explore how music is created / communicated / produced, focus on: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo etc.
Art & Design in KS3:
Aim is to produce creative work, explore ideas / record experiences.
become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture & other art.
Evaluate & analyse creative works using language of arts, crafts & design.
Know about great artists & designers, + understand the historical & cultural development of their art forms.
Art & Design in KS1:
Use a range of materials to creatively design / make products.
Use drawings and sculptures to develop / share ideas / imagination.
Develop wide range design techniques (colour, pattern, texture etc)
Learn about the range of artists, craft makers, designers, describing similarities / differences between practices + make links to their own work.
Art & Design in KS2:
Pupils are taught to create own sketchbooks & record observations. Use them + revisit + review ideas.
Improve mastery of art + design techniques (drawing, painting, sculpture) with range of materials (pencil, charcoal, paint, clay).
Learn about artists & designers in history.
KS4 entitlement area:
After the age of 14, alongside humanities, design & technology and modern foreign languages, the arts isn't compulsory.
Pupils in maintained schools have statutory entitlement to study a subject in each of those areas.
The arts includes: art and design, music, dance, drama & media arts.
