Patient's history of chronic hypertension put her at higher risk for preeclampsia. In preeclampsia, the elevated blood pressures cause risk for seizures, and when seizures occur, it is then considered eclampsia, which can develop further into HELLP syndrome, which involves the liver. Symptoms manifest as headaches, vision changes, epigastric/stomach pain in RUQ, edema, sudden weight gain, proteinuria, and the elevated BP. Preeclampsia is a medical emergency that requires immediate intervention.
